A customer sent us a PDF with three views. We welded, polished, and tested it, and shipped it on time.
In the field of vacuum technology, customized cavities are often considered the last choice, as they are too expensive, too slow, and too troublesome. So the engineer made do by buying a standard cavity to modify it, inserting a square substrate into a circular cavity, adding a bunch of adapters and sealing rings, and spending a few months making the standard product barely usable, but customizing it only takes a few weeks.
Today's' customization 'refers to your size, flange layout, material, and delivery time - most designs take 3-4 weeks, not 3 months. The difference between "standard product" and "perfect fit" is smaller than you think: each cavity is fully fusion welded, the inner surface is electropolished to Ra 0.4, each interface has helium leak detection<1 × 10 ⁻⁹, and full inspection without sampling.
Hundreds of cases have taught us that the biggest cost of a vacuum chamber is not the purchase price, but the compromise you make when it is not completely compatible with your process - the adapter is a potential leak point, the awkward loading method takes you a few more minutes per batch, and it takes several years at a time. The flange mouth you hope for will have to be drilled by yourself in the future, which is dirty and risky.
Customization is not a luxury, sometimes it's a smarter choice. So we tell each customer: when we send the drawings, we tell you if it's possible, where we can improve, and when we can ship them. We don't put pressure on you, just have an honest conversation.
